Ethiopia’s cultural events increasing tourists' stay, says Ministry

The special cultural events organized following Ethiopia’s unique festivals, such as Timket (Epiphany) and Christmas, have been increasing tourists' stay in the country, said the Ministry of Culture and Tourism.

According to the Ministry, the special events are cultural musics, cultural weeks, exhibitions and bazaars as well as beauty contests, among others.Ethiopia earned 959 million US dollars from over 256,000 tourists who visited the country in the first quarter of this Ethiopian fiscal year (July-September, 2017).The tourists are from the US, China, Germany and different African countriesThe sector created jobs for more than 2 million people.According to Gezahegn Abate, Public and International Relations Director of MoCT, Ethiopia plans to 4.5 billion US dollars this fiscal year (2017/18).
